Abstract
The Habsburg Lothringen'sche Gut Persenbeug is located in the western part of Lower Austria, between Ybbs an der Donau in the south and Grosspertenschlag in the north. The Variscan basement comprises the South Bohemian Massif and the metamorphic units of the Moldanubian Zone. The coarse - grained Weinsberg granite in the north is interspersed with younger, fine - grained granitic dykes. Along large, NNE - SSW trending fault zones a sinistral movement was determined by structural analysis. The mylonitic rocks caused by shearing processes provides raw materials for Gut Persenbeug. The southern part of the Gut Persenbeug is displayed by metamorphic lithologies, that show a NE directed nappe stacking due to analysis of the fold axes. The lower Ostrong Unit consists of characteristic cordierite - bearing paragneisses forming an anticlinal structure overturned to the west. The thrust of the Gföhl Unit consisting of granulite, migmatitic paragneiss, amphibolite and ultramafite rocks is marked by a granulite zone. In the Drosendorf Unit graphitic schists have been mined in the past. All tectonic units are intruded by steeply dipping, NNE directed lamprophyric dyke swarms. Therefore, the quarry in the valley „Lojagraben“ has further potential in the above mentioned direction. During the geological field work in the Weinsberger Wald, an area for potential mining of dimensional stones could be located. The detailed mapping proved an almost orthogonal joint system, that increases to depth in horizontal thickness. For further exploration of the deposit, core drilling and testing of the physical and technical characteristics of granite are proposed.
