Abstract

In the course of this work, a belt-guidance-roller, the Primetracker from the company ScrapeTec, was extended with a monitoring function and tested under laboratory conditions. The aim of this work is to develop a method for measuring the steering movements of the Primetracker in order to determine, document and evaluate the suitability of this belt-guidance-roller as a monitoring system. For this purpose, the Primetracker was equipped with sensors and installed on the chair's own belt conveyor (5 m length and 400 mm belt width). In addition to the Primetracker, other monitoring sensors were installed, as well as a possibility to introduce repeatable faults that cause belt misalignment. The introduction of artificial faults offers the possibility to simulate real fault situations (such as off-center belt loading) and to investigate them repeatedly under constant conditions. To determine the suitability of the belt-guidance-roller as a monitoring system, several series of tests with different malfunctions and fault sources were carried out, documented, and compared with each other. Based on the analysis method used in the test series, a software program was developed, which facilitates a live evaluation of the Primetracker's steering movements. The software thus enables statements to be made about the operating status of the belt conveyor and the type of malfunctioning that occur.
