Mineralogische, petrographische und geochemische Charakterisierung der Leukophyllit – Lagerstätte Aspang zur bestmöglichen Verwertung der Lagerstätte inkl. überlagernder Schichten

Research output: ThesisDoctoral Thesis

Abstract

The present thesis deals with the Aspang leucophyllite deposit. In addition to the leucophyllite, also the overlaying units, the Semmering quartzite are considered. On the basis of macro- and microscopic features three maintypes of leucophyllites and one phyllite maintype could be distinguished. By additional chemical analyzes, the (leuco) phyllite types could also be characterized geochemically. Microanalytical investigations supported the investigations and provided the basis for geothermometry. On the basis of the calcite dolomite solvus thermometer, as well as the chlorite thermometer, a formation temperature of about 335 ° C could be calculated. On the one hand the genetic age of 72 Ma could be dated with the data of the terrain work, the characterization of the leucophyllites and geochronological data, on the other hand a sedimentary formation together with the Semmering quartzites could be assumed on the basis of the U / Pb-age dating. The leucophyllites are to be regarded as the primary prone portion of the Semmering quartzite. This contradicts the genesis models currently being discussed for leucophyllite occurrences in the Eastern Alps, which assume either gneisses or porphyroids as protolithic material for the leucophyllites. In addition to the characterization of all available raw materials, the second focus was on the best possible utilization of all partial streams of the processing. On the basis of the results of the mineralogical and geochemical characterization on the one hand, the application fields of the partial streams already in use could be extended. As an example may be mentioned the use of muscovite in cosmetic applications. In addition, new applications were developed for unused partial flows. Here can be mentioned as an example of the slurry in the application as a ceramic raw material. The vision, based on a comprehensive geoscientific characterization of leucophyllite, to achieve a significant increase in the utilization of all product streams, could be achieved after implementation of the findings.
