Abstract

Even if the manufacturing process and the turnover are the focus of manufacturing companies, a high-performance and highly capable logisitcs can contribute significantly to the success of a company. In addition, companies are confronted with constantly increasing customer requirements. Especially in the electronic industry, fluctuations in demand, supply bottlenecks and intense competition also cause major challenges for companies. One possible way to deal with these challenges in the EMS industry is to align logistics and material flow design with the design principles of lean management, as these principles are made up of the elimination of waste, the flow principle, the takt principle, the realization of pulling processes, the pursuit of perfection, standardization, and continuous improvement. In this thesis, lean design principles for logistics are deductively derived from the literature. Then, in the empirical part, a case study is used to evaluate the impact of these design principles on the logistical goals. Based on the current state of the logistical processes, a material flow concept is developed according to the derived lean principles. In the meantime, parts of the target concept have already been implemented. The results of the already implemented subareas confirm the measures listed in the target concept as well as the calculated improvement potentials and emphasize them.
