Abstract
The magnetostratigraphy of the Permian/Triassic section of the Reppwand/Kammleiten area (Carnic Alps/Carinthia) as well as that of the Cretaceous/Tertiary of the Gosau Formation (Elend-, Knappengraben) in the
Northern Calcerous Alps (NCA) should prove the geostratigraphic position of these boundaries and enlarge the information about alpidic tectonism and palinspastic reconstruction. The results of Rock Magnetism of the Reppwand/Kammleiten profiles indicate a multicomponent magnetization of all limestones and dolomites. The strain measured from the degree of the anisotropy of the susceptibility shows a NE-SW direction which can be correlated with the local tectonic compression directions during the alpidic orogeny. In the Knappengraben, E of Gams/Hieflau, Styria, a section ranging from Upper Maastrichtian to the Paleocene was sampled for paleomagnetic investigations to get informations of the magnetic polarity pattern, especially within the range of the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary. In addition to this work the transition zone in Uppermost Maastrichtian was sampled in very small distances up to 0.02 m to study the shape and earth's field intensity during a polarity change. Fourieranalysis was used to synthesize PSV (PaleoSecularVariation) of the geomagnetic field during a reversal.
