Abstract
Hot-work tool steels are often used for tools in hot forming applications. During application the material has to resist complex loading conditions, consisting of wear, fatigue and creep. Dependending on application the duration of the material at elevated temperatures can be in the order of magnitude of a few hours. In order to describe the material during application, short-time creep tests have to be applied. In this diploma thesis two creep testing machines where reconstructed and the short-time creep behaviour of two different heat treatments of X38CrMoV 5 1 with same hardness was compared. Furthermore, the short-time creep behaviour of tool steels W360 and QRO90 was compared. The microstructure of the various hot-work tool steels was characterized by means of light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and hardness tests. The creep tests revealed that different heat treatments conducted on the X38CrMoV 5 1 do not lead to different creep behaviour. The comparison of W360 and QRO90 showed noticeable differences in the short-time creep behaviour which might be caused by the different chemical compositions of W360 and QRO90.
