Abstract
The pandemic achieved a worldwide presence and changed almost everybody’s life completely. The year 2020 is interfered with the Covid-19 virus and it is likely that the crisis will not be forgotten anytime soon. The consequences and effects are enormous on people regarding health, work-related or private issues. Covid-19 is not only a health crisis, but it also affected international economic processes. The fact that the automotive industry is complaining about a lack of electronic parts and the construction industry is registering exploding commodity prices are only two of innumerable examples due to corona. The primary focus of this master thesis is on the examination of effects on supply chains from different industry sectors because of the pandemic. Several tools of the field of risk management should be regarded in the course of the work to minimize the failure probability of supply chains on the procurement side. For this purpose, a criticality tool is developed to enable a comparison of different supply chains of similar industries. Furthermore, the criticality tool attempts to determine supply chain resilience by means of an assessment of the expression of various supply chain characteristics. Besides, a simulation of the resilience of supply chains is performed in the practical part using adequate software. The aim of this work is the derivation of strategies and measures to prevent the failure probability of supply chains on the procurement side. All developed strategies and measures should be generated in terms of risk management. Since we are in the middle of the pandemic, the consequences of the crisis are not fully assessable at all. Pursuing a resilient supply chain approach, however, makes it possible to better counteract a renewed crisis with several measures and reduces considerable weaknesses as well as vulnerability of supply chains.
