Abstract
The main objective of this thesis is to propose a concept for a new material flow for Mahle Filtersysteme Austria Gmbh in Wolfsberg. The study examines the material flow from the shop floor area towards the storage area. A restructuring should include a new automated process to transport the finished goods pallets instead of the manual handling process before. Mahle is manufacturing various mechatronic products for the automotive industry. Every year more than two million products leave the plant towards the costumers. To implement an automated guided vehicle system properly the whole material flow has to be changed. In a first step all processes around the finished goods flow are going to be analyzed and a value stream map will be drawn for the most important parts. A scan of the current market situation and discussions with suppliers will lead to proposals for possible AGV-systems. In the end four suppliers will offer a potential solution. With the help of the Analytic Hierarchy Process the best product will be found and later on economically evaluated. The cheapest and the best offer are analyzed with a dynamic pay back calculation and a life cycle costs computation. For the best solution a new material flow will be proposed, so that all advantages of the new automated system can be used to the fullest extent. An implementation concept in several steps will be delivered at the end of the thesis. The finding of this thesis is, that an automated process is possible if the material flow will be completely redesigned. From an economical point of view, the AGV is not advisable. The amount of goods, that have to be transported and the sales forecast indicate that the system will not be profitable within the near future.
