Abstract

Due to the high cost pressure in the food industry, companies are forced to focus on rationalization and efficiency related topics. As a reason of that the meat plant, described in the further process of this thesis, decided to switch from a manual palletizing and storage system to an automated storage and retrieval system and employ the warehouse staff in valueadded processes instead. This thesis deals with the preparation of different warehouse concepts for the automated container storage in a meat plant. Initially a theoretical basis is being elaborated, which includes appropriate storage systems and associated warehouse operating strategies. Order picking concepts are also being examined in the theoretical part of the thesis, as the order picking is included in the warehouse concepts. The main part of the theoretical basis focuses on the material flow analysis and calculation, as they are important for the comparison of the different concepts. In this part graphical representation models and different calculation models are being explained. The second (practical) part of the thesis includes the explanation and comparison of different warehouse concepts which have been developed based on the theoretical part of the thesis. Each concept consists of a Layout, a through put calculation and the theoretical utilization rate. To simplify the comparability, the explanations of each concept are structured in the same way. The description of the automated palletizing system is closing the practical part of the thesis. Different types of palletizing robots are being explained as well as the utilization rate and through put are being calculated. The developed concepts serve as a basis of decision for the meat plant, to choose their favorite concept.
