Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

The global economic environment has become ever more dynamic. As a result, strategic decision-making today is more risk related than ever. This new dynamic bears the strategic danger of cost structures dangling after revenue-streams. In order to invert this trend, new methods need to be designed. Based on an information management system, these methods need to identify and assess company related developments at an earlier stage as it is can be done today. The ambition of this work is to investigation the theoretical content and the structural requirements of an early warning system in the strategic management. The first part of this work reflects, on a generic level, a résumé of the current state of strategic an operational early warning mechanisms, found in international literature. The middle section of this work illustrates the business of the national and international postal services and explains the operational fields of the Österreichische Post AG within those. The final part of this work reflects a firm establishment of the practical transformation of the concept. A three-dimensioanl model will be presented, which different levels unite the substantial, the process-related and the operational orientation of this system, to one preventative tool. The findings of this thesis are meant to be the foundation of a practical implementation of an integrated early warning system.
