Konstruktive Auslegung und Umsetzung eines 3D Permeameters

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

Starting with the aim to develop a three dimensional permeameter which is able to measure the threw-thickness permeability of fibre preforms, a literature research was done. It was found out, that at this instant of time only a few of such test benches have been existing. By raring the pros and cons of the described measurement methods a decision-making process was carried out. With the target to measure the flow front interface development of the injected liquid in the preform an approach with ultrasonic probes was used. The ultrasonic test-setup uses the time of flight mode to scan the preform by sound. Therefore two ultrasonic probes are used. One acts as transmitter the other one as receiver. To be variable at the ultrasonic probe selection a modular construction concept was applied. This also allows the threw-thickness Permeameter to be adapted. For an ideal functionality of the construction different materials have been used. Their special material behaviour has been investigated to be used under ultrasonic environment. Furthermore a few preliminaries have been carried out to find out the best sensors for this experimental setup. Subsequently, these sensors were purchased and integrated in the test bench. The result of this thesis is a three dimensional permeameter which can be used to measure the threw-thickness permeability of fibre preforms under a similar environment as the liquid composite moulding process.
