Abstract

This Master Thesis addresses the dimensioning and design of an experimental plant for catalytic reforming of methane. On basis of literature different reforming processes of varying feed gas compositions with the main components CH4, CO2, H2O and O2 were examined and a suitable reactor concept was developed. During dimensioning of the reactor numerical simulation techniques were used. In addition an adequate peripheral equipment was designed to operate and analyse the reactor. The plant is able to vary pressure, volume flow and composition of the feed in large intervals in order to investigate different operating condtitions. CH4, CO2, O2, H2, N2, CO and H2O in the form of steam can be part of the feed gas of the reactor. By product processing and a gas analysis system the product gas composition can be determined, making quantitative evaluation of the reactor performance possible. A 3D model, 2D drawings and detailed parts lists of the experimental plant as well as a first cost estimation were made.
