Abstract
The chair of metal forming is very engaged in numerical simulation of metal forming processes and in the development of composite materials for lightweight constructions. In this context, it arose the need for research into stress strain curves up to high strains by means of torsion tests and for the physical simulation of cladding by rolling using rotation 'friction welding' as a reference model. Due to the lack of availability of such devices at the institute and due to the fact that torsion test and friction welding are similar processes, it was decided to design a combined testing facility. The whole construction was set by a black-box-model, which fulfills all the requirements of both processes. Furthermore at the draft phase, a user-friendly und safe design was postulated for the engine and the control system. During the whole time of the project the European machinery directive was implicated. During the master thesis, a compact testing facility for cold und hot torsion tests as well as friction welding test could be realized. The facility provides a broad variety of testing parameters and a flexible testing operation. After the successful beginning of operation many useful results could be obtained under different testing conditions. In the next future, some improvements of clamping the samples und controlling the machine will be performed.
