Konsequenzen der Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) im industriellen Umfeld: Eine empirische Erhebung in Österreich

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) was adopted by the European Commission as a guideline on sustainability obligations in the supply chain of companies. Its goal is to support sustainable and responsible entrepreneurial behavior in supply chains. Company obligation is to identify and, if necessary, prevent or reduce the adverse consequences of their activities for human rights and the environment. Using questionnaire methods and in-depth interviews, it is determined to what extent Austrian companies are prepared for the CSDDD, where challenges and risks and where opportunities and possibilities are seen. The companies surveyed primarily view the CSDDD as a necessary obligation and see costs as the biggest challenge. The introduction of additional employees, IT systems as well as reporting and audits leads to higher product prices, which could lead to displacement from the European market. New platforms increase the risk of negative headlines and incur additional licensing costs. Long lead times and global standards such as bans on child labor pose additional challenges, particularly due to different values around the world. SMEs that are indirectly affected could also bear high costs. However, the opportunity for internal and external marketing as well as raising awareness among stakeholders is viewed as positive. The CSDDD can reduce abuse among suppliers and increase awareness of sustainable consumption. Well-structured risk management could open up new opportunities and promote supply chain transparency. The CSDDD could also trigger a trend towards more sustainability and regional thinking, which could be particularly beneficial for Austrian companies.
