Abstract

IPCC is a process which is gaining more interest for surface mines as it is more efficient for materials haulage than using trucks. One challenge is to reduce the size of waste material to allow haulage on conveyors. The optimized IPCC solution is likely one where most fragmentation is already done during the blast, as blasting is cheaper than mechanical crushing. Most of the material should just pass through the crusher without size reduction. A certain percentage of the material must be crushed, but far from 100% if the total cost is to be minimized. Optimization will also speed up loading and reduce cost for the shovel. Optimized blast fragmentation should smooth the production rate, reduce wear cost, and save on energy costs.
