Abstract
The aim of this work is to dimension, build and test the patent of the mechanical conveyor belt safety clamp from LHB Mining Solution. Belt breakdown on belt conveyor systems carries a high risk when it comes to protecting workers and loss of production. In the beginning, concepts for test benches were developed to simulate a belt break. Next, theoretical estimates of the minimum and maximum belt tension, after a belt break, were made. A textile belt 500 EP400 / 3-4: 2-N serves as the basis fort he calculation. Different simulations were carried out with regard to the belt behavior and the belt speed after the belt was broken. Based on the data from the simulations, the braking forces required could be derived to bring the belt to a standstill after the belt broke. The patent filed contains two variants of a mechanical conveyor belt safety clamp. After a consultation with the company, the decision was to design the eccentric belt clamp and build therefor a prototype. After the prototype was built, tests were carried out using the dynamic test bench. The different release mechanisms and the clamping of the belt were tested with opposing eccentrics. The trials were largely successful. Difficulties were that there were occasional belt tears or tearing when pinching. As a view and for the further steps in the analysis of the tests, the focus should be on the belt tear during clamping.
