Abstract

The Upper Austrian company "KAMIG, Österreichische Kaolin- und Montanindustrie Aktiengesellschaft Nfg. Komm.Ges," is a traditional producer of kaolin, quartz sand and clay. The present work is part of the research cooperation of KAMIG with the Chair of Mineral Processing in the project "Development of a new process concept for the production of innovative mineral products from secondary raw material sources". One of the aims of this project is to produce innovative mineral products from the historical tailings at the Kriechbaum site. Specifically, the present work deals with the separation of the mineral phases quartz and potassium feldspar, which predominate in these anthropogenic deposits, by means of two-stage flotation through cation-active collectors in hydrofluoric acid slurry. First, the current state of research was summarized in a concise form by means of a literature study, and scientific papers were analyzed and compared. The investigations carried out on a laboratory scale are divided into the sub-processes of classification, attrition scrubbing, flotation and high intensity magnetic separation, with a special focus on flotation. The evaluation of these tests was carried out by balancing the results, based on chemical analyses using XRF. Selected products were also investigated using methods of property class analysis.
