Flammenausbreitung in Großbehältern innerhalb von Staub/Luft-Gemischen mit geringer Anfangsturbulenz

Research output: ThesisDoctoral Thesis

Abstract

Knowledge of the flame propagation mechanism and the ignition process in a dust/air mixture is essential for understanding and mathematical description of dust explosions. Aim of the present work is the description of the flame propagation in a dust/air mixture near the ignition point under conditions of low initial turbulence. Therefore, a large-scale testing rig for experimental purpose was designed, which allows to study flame formation and flame propagation in larger dimensions under conditions with low initial turbulence. Caused by the set-up, wall-effects are minimized and the flame front can propagate through the test rig under reduced external influencing factors. Conducted investigations show a clear flame front, which propagates from the closed end to the top of the tube. The structure of the flame varies depending on the chosen material. A smooth and regular propagation of the flame front and a uniform combustion of the particles could be observed by the experimental series.
