Abstract

The present work deals with the simulation of the calibration process of PM components. The main purpose is the design of a finite element model to predict critical areas of the tools. Furthermore the calculation of the density distribution in the sintered part has been performed as an aim of this work. To obtain sufficient results from the calculation of the compression process of PM parts an advanced material model has to be implemented into the commercial finite element code Deform3D. The calibration of this advanced model is done by cylindrical compression tests. The results of these tests show that the conformity between the calculated results based on the material model of Gurson & Tvergaard are much better than the results based on Shima & Oyane. The finite element simulations are done for the calibration process of a clutch dog and boss. Even these simulations show good agreement with the measurements. With the FEM model developed in this work it is possible to predict critical loaded tool regions. It is also possible to predict the density distribution in the whole workpiece.
