Abstract
The purpose of this thesis was to find new mould technologies and adapted production methods for the fabrication of acrylic teeth and test them in different experiments. These experiments should demonstrate the possibility to replace the currently used compression moulding by a fully automated process to produce denture teeth. This would be advantageous in many aspects: Compression moulding is under cost pressure because of a labour intensive production and the huge amount of reject it produces. An automated process would reduce or even avoid these facts. Research on dental materials and possible production methods for an automated tooth manufacturing technology has already been done in the bachelor thesis Machbarkeitsstudie zur Herstellung von Kunststoffzähnen in einem Spritzgießverfahren. Based on these results in this master thesis an experimental mould for the production of 3-layered teeth was designed. With this mould general tests were performed to manufacture teeth with injection through a sprue out of a central material reservoir. The injection was done by a plunger on an adapted high capillary rheometer. Apart from this feasibility study the injection experiments provided a basis to collect knowledge of tooth processing and the mixing behaviour of the materials with the aim to use this knowledge to push the development of new tooth moulding concepts to a new level. Furthermore, pvT-measurements were performed to gain better comprehension of tooth materials. As a result it can be said that the production of 3-layerd teeth made out of acrylic materials succeeded. At the same time problems in tooth manufacturing were uncovered and solutions given, both structured in an FMEA. The main problem of the performed injection experiments was the lift-off of the tooth basis when opening the upper mould half. This problem could be avoided by modification and adaptation of the experimental mould and the test parameters, but is still one of the critical points regarding the automated production. But this problem can be handled when solutions given in this thesis are taken into account.
