Abstract

The theoretical part of this diploma thesis shows the thermodynamically basics about hydrogen, like sievertss law, the solubility of hydrogen in steel and so on. Further more different topics such as the source of hydrogen in steel and the effects of this element to the final product are discussed. The better reproducibility of the HydroVAS-System was shown by comparison with the existing measurement chain with the help of practical experiments. There are comparable results of the two methods in the range from 1,3ppm up to 4,0ppm hydrogen content. Differences below this area are caused by a malfunction of the internal thermal conductivity detector. Incorrect measurements are produced, if the melting temperature deviates significantly from 1535°C. A discontinuity in the measurement area is created by the using of different calibration factors for different ranges of hydrogen contents. The features of the HydroVAS-System are the possibility to identify mismeasurements, the quick and simple method, and the immediately available measurement result. It was possible to show that the existing measurement chain works relatively accurate in matter to the analysis in the laboratory. The main influence on the result is the sampling chain itself. A compensation of the measurement deviation between the HydroVAS-System and the existing measurement chain through an adjustment by a formula seems to be appropriate.
