Abstract

The rise of digitalization and Industry 4.0 is challenging many aspects of the industry, one of them being plant maintenance in the pharmaceutical industry. When it comes to guaranteeing patient safety, producing pharmaceutical companies must have the ability to swiftly react to changes in order to adapt to the volatile environment as a result of increasing digitalization. In an effort to ensure said requirement, a continuous identification of critical assets is imperative to formulate a course of action, in order to maximize plant availability, reduce risks, and secure ongoing patient care. A tool which has proven itself worthy in the past is the so-called Criticality Analysis. This approach allows a prioritization of the assets with the aid of selected criteria specific to the company. The method of the Criticality Analysis can be adapted to the company or individual demands of business units, depending on the complexity, which can range from a simple needs-oriented, to a dynamic or even automated Criticality Analysis. However, the method to be applied is contingent on the quality and availability of the existing data of the company in question. A dynamic Criticality Analysis can only be launched with a certain level of data maturity. It is therefore the aim of this masters thesis to evaluate the possibility of introducing a dynamic Criticality Analysis for the assessment of assets on the premises of a producing pharmaceutical company. The theoretical part of this thesis concentrates on the advantages and the imperative nature of the evaluation of the data maturity as the ground work for the dynamic Criticality Analysis. The guideline for the implementation of the analysis, containing the asset selection, the evaluation of the data quality with the aid of the data maturity model as well as the actual analysis, is based on the CRISP-DM. The practical part of this thesis incorporates a critical review of the company´s data infrastructure as well as the practical application of the previously mentioned guideline. With its aid, the data quality and availability can be evaluated and as a result, the possibility of the realization of implementing a dynamic Criticality Analysis can be assessed. In addition, recommendations for increasing the data maturity in order to meet the specifications and requirements of a dynamic Criticality Analysis will be presented.
