Abstract
Considering the increasing competition between companies, the automobile industry is facing new challenges. In many cases, the entire value chain begins with optimization. Changing of markets, technologies and products are causing a growing pressure to perform among manufacturers. Due to these key aspects, there has been an increase in the number of required tasks to be performed through the manufacturing process and control system. The main focus of this masterthesis is the production equipment supply at the BMW Group engine plant in Munich. The global production network ensures a continuous supply of production equipment and unfortunately there is no possibility of control. The focus of this work is the production equipment engine cone and engine hook, which are used for positioning and attaching the engine block during assembly on the production line and transportation. Currently no regulated loop of these resources is present, resulting in the production process bottlenecks. For this reason, the objective of this scientific work is derived. First, there should be an actual state of the current resource supply identified and second the respective weaknesses shown. Through a detailed overview of the various methods of material tracking and resource control system a sensible method for controlling the engine cone and engine hooks are found. In the first part, the basics in the areas related to the subject matters of production equipment control systems, container-/empties management and material tracking are explained. In the practical part of this thesis the actual state is collected, analyzed, and waste of resources should be identified. Through analysis of that information a potential for minimizing or eliminating waste can be derived. Second, the use of advanced auto ID systems is contemplated and evaluated as an alternative solution for object identification and object localization. As a result, based on the theoretical foundations, recommendations for action to control the treated production resources are derived.
