Abstract

An efficient and effective part change management determines the competitive advantage of an automotive company during the life time of an end product. Due to the current development in the sector, such as increasing market and customer demands, but also innovation and technology pressure, it is earning even more importance. Although in the last years strategies and tools were developed to plan and manage the increasing number of part changes with controlled tasks and processes, by the insurance of a change implementation date difficulties can appear by LDJIS module suppliers when they deliver the same variances to different customers at the same time. Reasons for this can be found in some determining factors of the supply chain but also in the properties of the LDJIS module itself. An automotive model that is built in two production sites (split production) was taken as basis for this study. Goal was to determine the influencing variables so that similar constellations could be estimated early enough if, for instance, it is expected that the LDJIS modules or supplier locations have difficulties to ensure the claimed change implementation. The overall situation for the LDJIS supplier due to a split production of a total vehicle is described accurately. Furthermore the supply chain with two scenarios for the compliance of change implementation time by more than one customer site, is provided in detail. After a thorough research the goal of this study was achieved as the influencing values were identified, such as LDJIS process time itself but also the variance characteristics of the analyzed module complexities and the supplier’s concept. Although certain characteristics of the influencing variables give a good estimation over the ensurance of different change implementation times. The result through the combination of different influencing factors gives a more accurate estimation. The outcome of this study will be taken over in the logistic requirements of the vehicle manufacturer and are part of the change management scope for JIS suppliers’ competence.
