Abstract
The thesis describes the relevant factors influencing a successful joint between a copper pipe and the surrounding cast copper in the fabrication of cooling elements by compound casting. For this process the tubing is placed in a sand mold which is then filled with liquid copper. By this procedure a cast part with an integrated cooling circuit can be created in one step. The created cooling elements are mainly used in the metallurgical industry. They are applied for cooling zones against premature wear in the refractory lining of furnaces. The focus of the research is the interface between the copper casting and the copper tubes as it is responsible for the heat transfer and the overall efficiency of the cooling element. As a new process step active cooling of the tubing during the casting was applied. This enables foundries to cast cooling elements on a large scale using only copper for the entire part and hence improving recyclability. The influence of the cooling on the interface is compared with other results without cooling.
