Abstract

The development of modern automotive drivetrains is governed by the competing demands of constantly increasing transmitted power as well as weight and cost reduction. To meet these controversial goals simultaneously, it is necessary to characterise the load carrying capacity and the damage mechanisms of gear toothings. For the evaluation of the tooth root load carrying capacity for complex hypoid gears no idealize and generalize test procedure exists. Therefore the aim of the diploma thesis is the conception and construction of a new test procedure for testing hypoid wheels in single contact. Additionally a finite element (FE) simulation helps to scale the local S/N curve to essential stress values. The comparison of the load carrying capacity of two hypoid wheels with different case hardening depths points the relevance of the heat treatment out.
