Abstract

This master thesis deals with the carbon footprint of a novel additive for concrete production. After an introduction to the production of concrete and cement and the associated greenhouse gas emissions, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Product life cycle accounting and reporting standard and the draft ISO 14068 are presented. The aim of this work is to develop a calculation model for calculating the carbon footprint of a type-II-additive based on the two standards mentioned, as well as to collect all the data required for this purpose. The results calculated with this model are to be used in future to claim and demonstrate the carbon neutrality of the product in accordance with ISO 14068. After a description of the data collected, the calculation methods for each step of the manufacturing process are described.
