Yachts with an inclined stem are typically equipped with anchor systems where the anchor is lowered via a bow roller or through an anchor hawse pipe. For yachts with a straight stem these anchor systems are not as suitable as damage could occur on the side plate through the anchor gear bumping into the yacht’s hull. The aim of this thesis is to develop an anchor system applicable to yachts with a straight stem that prevents such damage on the side plate. Additionally the design of the yacht is to be improved with the development of this anchor system as the hoisted anchor is to be stowed inside the bow. In order to prevent any contact of the anchor gear with the yacht’s hull, a construction with a cantilevered arm is needed. With the help of such a construction, the distance between the anchor as well as the anchor chain towards the side plate is increased. To achieve a visual enhancement of the yacht, an appropriate mechanism is evolved which moves the arm plus the anchor to the inside of the bow and vice versa. The functionality of this mechanism is based on the idea of a drawer, therefore the arm is moved horizontally in and out of the hull in a drawer system. Three main assemblies set up the construction of the developed anchor system: the carrier, the tunnel and the drawer. The drawer that runs horizontally inside the tunnel, represents the arm of the mechanism and is moved via a linear drive system. The carrier is the connecting part to fit the anchor system into the yacht. To lower the anchor, the drawer is moved out through an aperture in the side plate. Fixed on the front of the drawer, a coverage masks this aperture once the drawer is closed. Hence, the components of the anchor system will not be visible when stowed inside the bow. Additionally the anchor is tucked inside a rocker in the front of the drawer, together with which the anchor is brought in position apart from the side plate. When releasing the anchor chain, the anchor is lowered from the rocker.
