Entwicklung einer durchgängigen Methodik zur Erhöhung der Instandhaltungsleistung im Kies- und Sandwerk Grafenwörth

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

In the mining industry, plant equipment is exerted to enhanced wear due to rough environmental conditions and mechanical impact. It is therefore important to design management tasks of related assets efficiently throughout their entire life cycle in order to improve operational performance. In this context, maintenance plays a pivotal role. Nevertheless, in many cases there is still considerable maintenance-related optimization potential among companies in the raw material industry. The present Master’s thesis addresses this performance gap in the partner company Rohrdorfer Kies und Sand GmbH. The first part of the theory section is devoted to maintenance-related definitions that form the basis of this work. Subsequent to explaining normative provisions, this section provides a brief recap on the evolutionary development of maintenance over the time. In addition, the multilateral influence of maintenance on corporate key success factors is described, thereby taking into account its predominant role in achieving operational excellence. Furthermore, this section gives an overview of well-accepted maintenance strategies and further underlines the importance of an appropriate target system for high operational performance. Since the latter has to be evaluated on a regular basis, selected maintenance indicators are discussed. In the concluding section, a methodical procedure for optimizing maintenance-related tasks is incorporated, which forms the conceptual framework for the practical studies. The practical section summarizes the performed investigations that were conducted during a period of six months in cooperation with the partner company. The main objective of this study concerns the evaluation of operational improvement measures based on a well-structured methodical approach. To this end, this section first outlines the maintenance-related status quo, which is founded on a functional benchmark-analysis of the pilot plant “Grafenwörth”. The gathered information further serves as starting point for both, the definition of maintenance-related objectives and the development of a criteria assessment tool for technical assets; thus, it particularly determines the identification of high-priority-assets (HPA). Selected HPA are then analyzed in more detail, whereas risk as well as cost analyses were performed. Subsequently, measures are defined to increase the maintenance performance. In order to add sustainable value to the partner company, the herein developed optimization measures are put in a time context in the form of a roadmap; the latter serves as basis for the implementation phase subsequent to this Master’s thesis. Furthermore, this work allows the partner company to enroll the presented methodology on additional productions sites, thereby shifting maintenance performance to a higher level.
