Einfluss textiler Parameter auf das Drapierverhalten von flächigen technischen Textilien

Abstract

Draping experiments with five carbon fiber textiles (Woven and Non Crimped Fabrics) on four U-profiles with different curvature (Single-, Double- and Triple- Curvature) were carried out. An evaluation system was developed to analyze the correct adjustment of the textiles to the curvature of the profiles. The influence of draping on the fiber orientation and fiber volume fracture was taken into consideration as well. Due to this evaluation system, a quantitative rating of the draping experiments and the comparison of the results was possible. Thanks to the twill weave, it was possible to drape all four profiles successfully. A good adjustment to all different curvatures and good fiber orientation on three profiles are the main reasons of the positive results. The loss of rovings had a bad influence on all draping results of this fabric. Apart of profile 1, there were no further positive results by using the plain weave because of very low deformation ability. Due to the formation of wrinkles, only one positive result was achieved with the NCF’s apart of profile 1. The NCF (0/90) could be draped well on profile 3 with little loss of rovings and some local deviation of the desired fiber orientation. The rest of the NCF’s could only be draped successfully by using a different preform, which takes the radius and the curved area into account. The necessity of cutting through a large amount of fibers is a major drawback of this modified preform. To achieve good draping characteristics without harming the textiles, it is of the utmost importance to follow certain draping procedures depending on the different textile types. NCF’s have to be draped differently than woven fabrics. It is also important to fix the textiles in a proper way to leave them unharmed during distortion.
