Abstract
The lead-zink-ore deposit of Arikogel near Bad Goisern has been known for many thousand years. Still its age and tectonic setting are a matter of discussion. This diploma thesis tries to answer these questions by using sedimentological and stratigrafic methodes and the investigation of profiles for comparison. Age data were gained from shallow-water organisms. They showed that the dolomite and limestone from Mount Arikogel have late Carnian to early Norian age and can be seen in contact with the rocks from the profiles east and west of the Hallstatt lake which are part of the Dachsteinblock. For the section west of the Hallstatt lake the known stratigrafy could be confirmed. The eastern section is more complicated as estimated before. Therefore the Arikogel carbonates have a tectonic boundary to the underlying Werfener Formation, and the Arikogel must be seen as a part of the tectonic unit called Dachsteinblock. Ore analysis would be important to gain more information about the formation of this deposit, and to verify a genetic relationship with Carnian lead-zink deposits in western Austria and in the Drauzug, which seems to be quite probably, considering all known data, although these deposits are situated in Wetterstein platform carbonates (late Ladinian to early Carnian).
