Abstract
Durability limits mark the transition of a tribosystem from stable to unstable running conditions, commonly known as seizure, scuffing or a mild-severe wear transition. Beside the input parameters load, sliding speed and temperature, the impact of time or sliding distance on the durability limits also have to be considered. The goal of this research was to model the durability limits for various load histories under constant speed and temperature and subsequent comparison with experimental validation tests. Experimentally obtained durability results can potentially be used in the future to support the design process. The novel approach uses a type of cumulative damage accumulation based on experimentally obtained load-time maps. Good accordance between the model predictions and validation test results were accomplished and depict the validity of the presented approach.
