Abstract
The aim of this thesis was to investigate the property profile of laminates under quasi-static and fatigue compression loading. The investigated laminates were produced with the resin transfer moulding (RTM) technology and differed in the way of compaction of the fabrics and the used resin systems. A second focus was the development and evaluation of an adequate setup for the measurement of strains in cyclic compression tests. As a result of the short free grip length in compression tests usually there is not enough space for the attachment of mechanical contact extensometers and strain gauges often loose their contact in cyclic tests. In this respect, however, the results with different testing arrangements have shown that for a correct acquisition of strain a direct measurement on the specimen is necessary. The characterisation of the fatigue behavior was done by analyzing the dynamic modulus and secant modulus as a function of cycle numbers as well as looking at the isocyclic stress strain behavior of the laminates. The compacted laminates showed a slightly better fatigue behavior with regard to cycles to failure and stiffness decrease. In the isocyclic stress strain diagrams distinct material creep could be detected for all laminates under cyclic compression loads.
