Abstract

Intermetallic Gamma-TiAl based alloys exhibit increasing technical importance for high-temperature applications in automotive and aerospace industries. Compared to other intermetallic materials Titanium Aluminides are mainly produced via a conventional casting procedure. Their advantage is mainly seen in low density, combined with high specific yield strength and stiffness, good creep properties up to high temperatures as well as good oxidation resistance. As a result of their intermetallic character Titanium Aluminides show a relative low ductility at low temperatures, but sufficient workability at high temperature. The aim of this diploma thesis was to characterise a high niobium containing Gamma-TiAl based alloy, which is planned to be used for the production of turbine blades. This comprises the determination of the phase transformation temperatures, the investigation of the microstructure, the evaluation of the influence of heat treatments and the characterisation of the deformation textures. This thesis includes some basic-scientific experiments as well, namly investigations of the massive transformation and the determination of the deformation texture depending on the deformation direction.
