Sandvik does not sell Top Hammer (TH) and high pressure Down the Hole (DTH) boom mounted drill rigs capable to drill hole sizes from 152 mm up to 203 mm diameter. The present work was made to evaluate Sandvik´s possibilities to enter in this drill rigs market, doing a worldwide market revision and evaluating the actual Sandvik situation in the drill rigs and rock tools factories for both drilling methods. The evaluation was made with the information that has been collected from internal and external sources. Product of the information evaluation that has been collected the conclusion of this report has been that the conditions are given to manufacture in Sandvik factories the Top Hammer and high pressure Down The Hole boom mounted drill rigs. The main marketing efforts must be taken in the promotion of boom mounted Top Hammer drill rigs, because they are not available in the actual market this kind of drilling equipment working with hole sizes from 152 mm up to 203 mm diameter. In the meantime Sandvik has signed an agreement with Cubex Ltd. in Winnipeg (Canada) to acquire the IP of the QXR drills (High pressure DTH drills). Sandvik is in charge of the sales and production support of all QXR´s globally. This agreement was signed in the second quarter 2010.
