Abstract
In mining, various properties such as the fracture force or fracture energy of a particle are of great importance. Geopyörä has developed a machine that can measure and analyse these properties using a double wheel principle. Two wheels rotate in opposite directions. The wheels are located at a defined distance from each other, creating an adjustable gap. Before breaking, the wheels are disconnected from the power supply and slowed down. In order to break the particle, the kinetic energy of the wheels is used and consumed. This results in a loss of speed and a reduction in rotational speed. The difference in speed before and after the breakage makes it possible to calculate the breakage energy. As part of the thesis, the particle feed to this machine, which was previously done manually, is to be automated and integrated into the existing machine. This includes the design, the control, and the construction of the prototype. A discrete element simulation of the entire system will be carried out to rule out possible sources of error and recognize potential for improvement. The aim is to obtain information about the breakage behavior, possible particle losses after breakage and the total duration of a test run. A particle size analysis of the particles will then be carried out using a camsizer. Various concept ideas are being developed for transport between the machine and the camsizer.
