Abstract
This doctoral thesis deals with the increase of the stability behaviour of thin rectangular plates by application of manufacturing methods. It has been written within the COMET K2 research project A3.9 “Fertigungstechnischer Leichtbau - Metal Forming Concepts for Manufacturing of Light Weight Structures”. The basis research project “Fertigungstechnischer Leichtbau - Metal Forming Concepts for Manufacturing of Light Weight Structures” has been carried out from 2008 till 2011. The project partners have been the chair of metal forming of the Montanuniversität Leoben (LUT), the Institute of Lightweight Design and Structural Biomechanics of the Vienna University of Technology (ILSB) and the Materials Center Leoben (MCL). The project has been splitted in several work packages which were focused on the optimization of the stability behaviour of thin plates and the improvement of material and/or component properties. Three different possibilities of increasing the stability behaviour of thin rectangular plates have been subjected to an intensive investigation. Hereby a special emphasis has been put on the applicability of the results with respect to the production orientated lightweight construction. Furthermore, the improvement of the stability and dynamic behaviour of the plate structures without weight increase had to be managed. On the one hand the implementation of residual stresses and on the other hand the systematic modification of the moment of inertia has been used to strengthen the plates locally. It was a special task to fulfil the theoretical approaches by inducing residual stresses through thermo mechanical plasticising of the material, by mechanical up arching of the plates making embossing patterns and by applying preconceived beads, respectively. Both, the implementation of residual stresses and the modification of the moment of inertia, as well as their manufacturing methods have been investigated separately. Interdependencies and effects on the buckling strength as well as the fundamental frequencies of the rectangular plates have been analysed.
