Abstract

In this master thesis, different physical processing steps were applied to two quartz/feldspar sand fractions of KAMIG GmbH & Co. KG in different dispersities. In addition to the investigation of the possibilities of exploiting different comminution properties for subsequent separation steps, the aim was to remove impurities as completely as possible by means of magnetic separation and density sorting. The quality requirements for the quartz and feldspar concentrates produced should meet those for use in glass production. In the first part of the thesis, the two quartz/feldspar sand fractions were crushed on an vertical impact crusher and analysed according to the processing characteristic class analysis. For the subsequent sorting tests according to the characteristics "magnetizability" and "density", the shredded feed materials were classified into four grain fractions sieved on a tumbler screen. Extensive sorting tests were then carried out on two of the four comminution fractions with various series of tests on two magnetic separators. Here, the main goal was to deplete iron-containing heavy mineral phases such as ilmenite as completely as possible. In the third part of the thesis, systematic tests were carried out on a centrifuge on a laboratory scale at the grain fraction 315/100 ¿m. In this process, the separation was carried out into a light and a heavy material, whereby the aim was to achieve the most complete depletion possible from colouring impurities, as in the case of magnetic separation. Promising results were achieved both in the selective comminution and in the tests on the separation units.
