Abstract

This master thesis deals with the processing tests of the nonferrous metal fraction originating from the shredder operation of Scholz Rohstoffhandel GmbH at the Laxenburg location. In order to find potential for technical optimization in the plant and to test the efficiency limits in case of advanced processing of the existing products. The latest equipment available on the Austrian market was used in a pilot test campaign. The fraction has a grain size of <100mm and contains mainly non-ferrous metals and residual materials. The aim of the processing is the separation and recovery of the non-ferrous metals as well as the further allocation of these into specified scrap types. In the first part of the thesis, input samples of the products from Laxenburg were analyzed within the scope of a sytematic raw material analysis with regard to their material composition. All the samples were subdivided by screen analysis and optically sorted, the fines <10 mm were further subdivided into property classes of density and magnetization in the processing laboratory of Montan-University Leoben. The recyclable material content and its distribution led to a test concept, which was implemented in cooperation with external companies. The second part describes the pilot scale test campaign, product analysis and data evaluation. In order to achieve the best possible sorting result, three samples of the plant differing in size were subjected to a preparatory multi-stage sieving process. The sorting process in each size class consisted of eddy current separation followed by magnetic separators and sensor-based sorters. The results from the classifying and sorting tests lead to a proposal to optimize the process routine. The products separated from the nonferrous metal fraction of the shredder plant shall be distributed into specified non-ferrous scrap types, Zorba, Zurik and Drove, as well as a residual fraction.
