Abstract

In the course of this scientific thesis an attempt is made, to develop an innovative continuous conveyor system and to check its suitability as an economical alternative to conventional belt conveyors. The aim is to achieve improvements in terms of cornering, flexibility and energy efficiency compared to systems already in use. To do this, the known limitations of different continuous conveyors are first examined in detail in order to then be able to make initial considerations about possible designs on this basis. After deciding on a promising concept, suitable calculation methods for the design of the individual system components are sought, on the basis of which a complete CAD model of the final design is then created. To validate the proposed concept, some relevant bulk material transport simulations will be carried out using the “Discrete Element Method”. The results of these will be incorporated into the improvement of the design. After careful evaluation of all available calculation and simulation results, it can be determined that the final design definitely shows potential, especially in the areas of cornering and flexibility. In order to check these results in reality and gain further insights, a step towards the prototype phase should be made by experimenting with models of selected sections of the system on a reduced scale.
