Abstract

The present work is a study of suitability of the manufacturing process “deep drawing” for production of a window striker plate of the project partner Mayer & Co GmbH. The aim is to construct a functional, reduced-cost component by using geometry optimizations inclusive systematic selection of materials and the calculation of necessary parameters. In a previous literature review, fundamentals of metal forming and deep drawing are described as a starting point. Attention is paid mainly to possible limitations of the production and the description of the specific characteristics of deep drawing. In the empirical part of this thesis a sheet metal layout according to guideline AWF 5791 includ-ing adjustments is at first created. By analysis of the requirements, the materials DC04 and X5CrNi18-10, have been identified for further considerations. To assess the boundary conditions, the drawing test IFT-PPL3731 is simulated by using the finite element method. In combination with further simulations of the actual deep drawing process, the question of the feasibility can be answered positively. As a basis for discussion the results are compared with the current die cast striker plate. In addition, the suitability of changes made to the original design are analyzed and evaluated.
