Aim of the thesis entrusted by CEMEX Austria AG was to investigate and evaluate possible designs and layouts for an open pit mining within the project area as well as options for the transport from the extraction site to the plant in the valley below. During the first period of the project it was necessary to do the surveying part with the collection of its data. Afterwards maps were drawn as a basic information for the subsequent planning work. The second part of the thesis was to consider the possibilities of different types of mining methods and their advantages and disadvantages. This included the discussion of technical alternatives and a decision for the best strategy for the project in respect to different aspects. Both the selected mining method and the transportation to the plant was transformed into a 3D mining model, considering also the development over time. Finally the third part of the thesis adressed legal issues of the project, in particular concerning environmetal assessing and consequences for the mine design.
