Prozessanalyse zum ressourcenschonenden Recycling von Spanschrotten aus der Aluminiumverarbeitung

Abstract

Under the name “solid state recycling” several new recycling processes develop, to bypass the high energy consumptions required for processing aluminium chips through remelting. Because of the elimination of the liquid phase, these direct recy-cling processes do not only consume less energy than conventional methods but also reduce the material loss during recycling, which leads to a more direct and resource efficient process. To achieve the best results in aluminium recycling it is necessary to separate the metal from impurities and other alloys. Especially in companies produc-ing finished parts from aluminium and its alloys, big amounts of machining chips from only one alloy can be collected quite easily. The recycling of these chips with a direct recycling route offers a great potential and could lead to a reduced consumption of raw material. In this work a recycling route for solid state recycling of aluminium in-cluding all necessary processing steps is designed and presented. This includes the cleaning from cutting and cooling fluids to reduce the amount of impurities, the com-pacting of the chips to briquettes to facilitate the handling during further processing and the consolidation step with different possible solutions to achieve a solid state recycled product. Because a consolidation would not be possible for most of the direct recycling routes without a cleaning step, the main part of the recycling route, is a de-tailed concept for cleaning the chips from cutting and cooling fluids in a washing drum, based on the results of laboratory testing. Subsequently the necessary tool assem-blies for the compaction and the consolidation without a separate heating step prior to deformation are presented. Additionally the chosen consolidating processes are com-pared to other solid state recycling techniques by their measured and calculated en-ergy consumptions to show their potential in energy savings. To then verify the poten-tial of the deformation processes first laboratory tests were done. Some of their promising metallographic examinations are shown to conclude this paper and offer a starting point for further investigations and research work.
